چکیده

Feature modeling is a common framework for software design. A feature model is a graphical structure presenting a hierarchical decomposition of features, called a feature diagram, with some possible crosscutting constraints between them. Feature modeling languages are grouped into basic and cardinality-based feature models. Cardinalitybased feature models subsume basic ones. In this paper, we provide a reduction process, which allows us to go from a cardinality-based feature diagram to an appropriate regular expression such that the expression faithfully captures the semantics of the feature diagram. As for CCs, we propose a formal language interpretation of them. In this way, we provide a formal language-based semantics for cardinality-based feature models. Accordingly, we describe a computational hierarchy of feature models, which guides us in how feature models can be constructively analyzed. We also characterize some existing analysis operations over feature models in terms of on languages and discuss the corresponding decidability problems.

Modeling and Evaluation of Stochastic Discrete-Event Systems with RayLang Formalism

In recent years, formal methods have been used as an important tool for performance evaluation and verification of a wide range of systems. In the view points of engineers and practitioners, however, there are still some major difficulties in using formal methods. In this paper, we introduce a new formal modeling language to fill the gaps between object-oriented programming languages (OOPLs) us...

The Semantics of a Formal Language of Manufacturing

AbstracL Features are application and viewer-dependent interpretations of geometry. This article demonstrates how the notion of features arising out of geometric data may be formalised as the semantics of a language of shape, using machining operations as an extended example. The syntax and semantics of formal languages are discussed, with particular reference to their use in design. A simplifi...

Lexical Semantics and Selection of TAM in Bantu Languages: A Case of Semantic Classification of Kiswahili Verbs

The existing literature on Bantu verbal semantics demonstrated that inherent semantic content of verbs pairs directly with the selection of tense, aspect and modality formatives in Bantu languages like Chasu, Lucazi, Lusamia, and Shiyeyi. Thus, the gist of this paper is the articulation of semantic classification of verbs in Kiswahili based on the selection of TAM types. This is because the sem...

A short introduction to two approaches in formal verification of security protocols: model checking and theorem proving

In this paper, we shortly review two formal approaches in verification of security protocols; model checking and theorem proving. Model checking is based on studying the behavior of protocols via generating all different behaviors of a protocol and checking whether the desired goals are satisfied in all instances or not. We investigate Scyther operational semantics as n example of this...
